Kaizer Chiefs Starlet Joins Stellenbosch FC

Stellenbosch FC have struck a deal to sign Kaizer Chiefs defender, Gopolang Taunyana.

On Wednesday, 5 August, a statement was published via Stellies’ official website confirming that the 20-year-old would be joining the Cape Winelands outfit for the upcoming Premier Soccer League (PSL) season.

Initially driven by the aspiration to become a referee, Taunyana worked his way up through Amakhosi’s youth development ranks. He was part of the Soweto outfit’s reserve team that won the 2024-25 DStv Diski Challenge title.

Additionally, he was in the South African squad that won the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in 2025.

Details surrounding the length of Taunyana’s contract with Stellenbosch remain unconfirmed, with some reports suggesting a two-year deal. As for his salary, the figures have yet to be disclosed. What’s more, he will play in the number 21 jersey for the upcoming campaign.

“Growing as a player and a person is the most important thing for me, and I felt that this was the right step for my career and the right environment for me to grow,” said Taunyana regarding his move, per the statement. “This is an environment where a lot of players have shone in the past, so I’m excited to go on that journey now as well.”

The promising defender will be in PSL action next Tuesday, 11 August, when Stellenbosch take on Polokwane City at Seshego Stadium in Seshego, Limpopo.
